You archive a ChatGPT conversation, return to the sidebar, and the chat is suddenly gone. It is easy to wonder whether you accidentally deleted it—or whether the messages and uploaded files have disappeared with it.
Archiving does not delete a ChatGPT conversation. It removes the conversation from your main sidebar while keeping the thread in your account. You can find it again, reopen it, continue the discussion, return it to your regular history, or delete it later.
